Assignment 5 Reflection

Image
While working on Assignment 5: PowerPoint Interaction, I learned how to create a fully interactive presentation using hyperlinks, buttons, transitions, and kiosk mode. I gained new skills in non-linear navigation, linking slides, and adding animations and sound effects to enhance user engagement. I liked how creative the project allowed me to be, and it was fun designing a quiz that felt more like a game. What I didn’t like as much was troubleshooting when buttons didn’t link properly, it took a few tries to fix. Next time, I’ll double-check all links and buttons earlier on to avoid confusion at the end.      As a future 4th-grade teacher, I can definitely see myself using data collection tools like Google Forms or Qualtrics to check for student understanding. For example, after a science unit on ecosystems, I could create a short survey to see which concepts students grasped and which ones need to be reviewed. I could also use surveys to get feedback ...

Reflecting on Educational Experiences and Resources

During my K-12 education, I engaged in distance learning primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Platforms such as Zoom, Google Classroom, and Canvas facilitated virtual classes and assignment submissions. While Zoom enabled live interactions, maintaining focus and engagement was sometimes challenging in a remote environment. I have not yet experienced virtual or augmented reality tools in education but am interested in exploring them, as they could make learning more immersive and interactive, particularly in subjects like science and history.      Open Educational Resources are freely accessible teaching and learning materials available online. They encompass a wide range of formats, including textbooks, videos, quizzes, and lesson plans, all designed to support education without the constraints of traditional copyright restrictions. A notable resource is the blog "OER and Beyond," which serves as a platform for discussions on open education, open ac...

Web Design

Image
Through the Web Design assignment using Weebly’s basic version, I developed several new skills related to creating and organizing a classroom website. I learned how to structure a homepage, create navigation tabs for various subjects, and insert images and external links. In designing the site, I applied key design principles such as alignment, contrast, and simplicity. For example, I ensured all text and images were properly aligned to maintain a clean and cohesive layout. I used color contrast to improve readability and chose a simple, uncluttered format to make the website accessible for both students and parents. I appreciated how intuitive the Weebly platform was, especially for beginners, although I found the limited customization options on the free version somewhat frustrating. In the future, these website design skills may be valuable for building a classroom site to share updates, resources, and student work with families and the broader school community. ...

Using Technology and Online Resources in Education

I explored the teacher pages on Canopy Oaks Elementary School's website under the "Teacher Websites" section. The publicly accessible pages provide class schedules, upcoming events, and links to educational resources. Some teachers also share their contact information and brief biographies. However, detailed content like specific assignments or student progress reports likely requires login credentials. These pages serve as a valuable tool for parents and students to stay informed about classroom activities and expectations. https://www.leonschools.net/domain/1574 Incorporating technology into my teaching practice is essential for enhancing efficiency and effectiveness. I plan to utilize platforms like Google Classroom to distribute assignments and communicate with students seamlessly. For organizing grades and tracking student progress, tools such as Microsoft Excel or dedicated gradebook software will be beneficial. Additionally, creating engaging presentations with too...

Reflecting on Blogging and Generative AI

Blogging has been an interesting experience so far. I like that it gives me a space to organize my thoughts and reflect on different topics. One thing I don’t love is is always having such strict topics. I understand this is for school and we must stick to the topic but I wish we could also have more fun prompts. But overall, I think blogging has helped me improve my writing and made me more comfortable sharing my ideas.      Using Generative AI for the Participation Portfolio Item was a mix of helpful and frustrating. I tried using it to come up with ideas and reword my sentences, which sometimes made my writing clearer. But other times, it gave really basic responses that didn’t sound like me, so I had to go back and edit a lot. Next time, I’d probably use it just for brainstorming or checking my work rather than relying on it too much.      If I were to use Generative AI in teaching, I think it could be a good tool for helping student...
