Assignment 5 Reflection

While working on Assignment 5: PowerPoint Interaction, I learned how to create a fully interactive presentation using hyperlinks, buttons, transitions, and kiosk mode. I gained new skills in non-linear navigation, linking slides, and adding animations and sound effects to enhance user engagement. I liked how creative the project allowed me to be, and it was fun designing a quiz that felt more like a game. What I didn’t like as much was troubleshooting when buttons didn’t link properly, it took a few tries to fix. Next time, I’ll double-check all links and buttons earlier on to avoid confusion at the end.

As a future 4th-grade teacher, I can definitely see myself using data collection tools like Google Forms or Qualtrics to check for student understanding. For example, after a science unit on ecosystems, I could create a short survey to see which concepts students grasped and which ones need to be reviewed. I could also use surveys to get feedback from students about how they feel during group work or about their confidence in certain subjects. These tools would help me track progress, adjust lessons, and create a more responsive classroom.

One technology-related skill I would like to learn next is how to create educational videos using Canva or a similar free platform. My goal is to create a two-minute video by the end of this semester that introduces a topic I would teach in 4th grade, such as the water cycle. This goal is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART), and I plan to work toward it by spending 30 minutes each week experimenting with Canva’s video tools. I’ll begin by using templates and watching short tutorials on YouTube to guide me. Learning this skill will help me design engaging digital content for students and enhance their learning experience through visual storytelling.
